Indianapolis Colts v Carolina Panthers
The next six games of the Carolina Panthers' schedule will say a lot about this team and who they really are. None of the remaining opponents have a losing record at this time. Most are in the playoff hunt currently. Half of… Continue

Carolina looks to keep winning ugly in NFC South matchup at Atlanta

Carolina has been winning ugly against bad teams in recent weeks, but there wasn't much to criticize about the Panthers' performance when they met the Atlanta Falcons in September.

Record-setting day helps Panthers take down winless Lions

The one-two punch of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart dazzled with a record-setting day on the ground for Carolina. The Panthers needed all those yards to squeak by the league's only winless team.

Offseason decision to trade Jenkins fuels Panthers (AP)

This Oct. 12, 2008 file photo shows New York Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, his gloves on his facemask, as he comes out for pregame warmups before an NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. By ridding themselves of a player who clearly wanted out, the Panthers' locker room bears no resemblance to the past two years. It's not just that Jenkins and his high-pitched laugh are gone, so is the tension, negativity and individualism that took up even more space than the massive defensive lineman.

Kris Jenkins is having one of his best seasons, dominating at nose guard and helping the New York Jets become a playoff contender. The Carolina Panthers sure made a mistake trading the three-time Pro Bowl selection for third- and fifth-round draft picks, right? Wrong. The move may be the biggest reason the Panthers (8-2) have the third-best record in the NFL.

Trepidation follows Panthers despite 8-2 record (AP)

The Carolina Panthers have won four straight games, have the third-best record in the NFL and have already surpassed last year's win total. They're 6-0 at home, 8-2 overall, lead the NFC South and appear in great position to end a two-year playoff drought. Now that that's out of the way: What's wrong with them?

Panthers' running game keeps Lions winless 31-22 (AP)

Detroit Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper (11) reacts after throwing a touchdown pass in the first quarter against the Carolina Panthers in an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

The one-two punch of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart dazzled with a record setting day on the ground for Carolina. The Panthers needed all those yards to squeak by the league's only winless team. Stewart rushed for a career-high 130 yards and a touchdown, Williams added 120 yards and two more scores, and Panthers held off the Detroit Lions 31-22 on Sunday.

Lions banged up on defense against Panthers (AP)

The banged-up, winless Detroit Lions were without four key players on defense for Sunday's game at Carolina. Starting defensive ends Jared DeVries (hand) and Dewayne White (calf), free safety Dwight Smith (foot) and cornerback Keith Smith (groin) did not dress. Center Dominic Raiola (hand) and receiver Mike Furrey (concussion) also did not play for the Lions, who started Daunte Culpepper at...

LB Jon Beason is tackling machine for 7-2 Panthers (AP)

Jon Beason wasn't publicly recognized by his coach for winning the NFC defensive player of the month award for October until Wednesday. It doesn't mean John Fox and the Carolina Panthers are overlooking their second-year middle linebacker. Far from it. Bring up Beason's name in the locker room and even the shy, reserved Julius Peppers perks up.

Smash and Dash gash the Lions

Now this is the type of running game that will put a smile on any coach's face, especially one who loves physical football like coach John Fox. Carolina's "Smash and Dash" tandem of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams combined for 250 of Carolina's franchise-record 264 rushing yards Sunday in a 31-22 win over the Lions.

Peppers earns weekly honor

Defensive end Julius Peppers was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance this past Sunday in Carolina's 17-6 win over the Oakland Raiders. Peppers had a remarkable game with seven tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and tipped pass.

SCOUTing the Lions

Finally, after growing up in Detroit and going through so much with the Lions, Drew Stanton got to play Sunday against Jacksonville. "It was great," Stanton said. "It was one of those things that you dream about as a kid. Obviously having it come to fruition was tremendous, to get a chance to get out there and play, especially in Ford Field in front of the home crowd."

The Delhomme Debate

Fans are fickle. If their team wins, their coach is the greatest ever, the QB is a Pro Bowler and they are going 14-2 on their way to the Super Bowl. If their team loses, everyone associated with the team should be fired, traded or cut. That's what it has come down to in NFL fan circles. Everyone is an expert. Now it is your turn.

Panthers win despite Delhomme's horrible day

The thing about good football teams is when one phase of your game is struggling -- whether it be offense, defense or special teams -- the other area has to be there to pick up the slack. And that's what's happening with the Carolina Panthers.
